Foster+Partners have unveiled sweeping plans for a £2 billion redevelopment of Old Trafford, which would transform the historic ground into a 100,000-capacity arena.
World-renowned architecture firm Foster+Partners have presented Manchester United's board with a visionary £2 billion blueprint to transform Old Trafford into one of the largest and most modern football stadiums in the world. The plans, which were reviewed by the club's hierarchy this week, envision a phased construction programme that would see the current 74,000-capacity ground expanded to accommodate over 100,000 supporters while retaining the iconic facades of the Sir Alex Ferguson and East Stands. The development would also include a year-round entertainment district adjacent to the stadium, featuring hotels, restaurants, a fan museum, and community sports facilities. Subject to planning permission from Trafford Borough Council, construction could commence as early as 2026 with the project expected to take approximately five years to complete.
